A SUBJECT WITHOUT MATTER
This series of photos explores notions of alchemy and the camera obscura by contemplating the subject of a photograph. The concept behind my final work were inspired by the positive and negative photos I took using a pinhole camera on campus. The purpose of my other photographs was to not only obscure the audience’s view but to also make them question the subject of the photo. These compositions challenge notions of photography as being an accurate representation of reality and how it cannot truly capture a moment but is simply a subjective interpretation. Each image has been displayed in a mason jar as it evokes a sense of nostalgia but also of preservation and illustrates how we attempt to preserve moments through photos. Moreover, it invites interaction, to hold, to pick up and inspect these images through the glass and analyse its meaning.
