CIRCLE STOOL
The Circle Stool is designed to appeal to minimalistic users who want a chair that is simple yet dual purpose. It features a square plywood seat with four pine legs connected by four panels. Two of the panels include three holes across them whilst the other two are smaller and feature no holes. The purpose of the holes is to add an aesthetic but to also allow the user more space to carry the stool with ease. The flat top seat allows the stool to double as a table whilst the space between the seat and legs also allow the user to transport the stool.
The Circle Stool embodies the ideas behind The Ulmer Hocker Stool by Max Bill and Gerrit Thomas Rietveld’s chair, Zig-Zag as it represents notions of minimalism and multifunctional design. Similar to both designs, I have chosen plywood as a material as it is readily available and affordable therefore making the design more economical. Similarly, the design requires minimal amounts of wood and balanced by positive and negative space.
