LOVE FROM OSAKA
[ オサカからの愛 ]
“The art of living is to realise that imperfection is the purest form of beauty”
Love From Osaka is the embodiment of Wabi-sabi, a Japanese philosophy that denotes the purest form of beauty as appreciating imperfection in everyday life. It is a state of consciousness derived from Japanese culture that can be found in everyday objects. It’s origins can be traced back to traditional Japanese tea ceremonies that centralised around the notion of stripping down the process of making tea to the most essential method and by utilising humble tools.
My intent is create tea-ware that references to Wabi-Sabi through incorporating natural and handmade elements. Furthermore, the object will not function as tea-ware but rather inspire the user of notions of Wabi-Sabi. It is through the imperfect design of an everyday object that I hope to enlighten the user to appreciate the beauty of imperfection. Moreover, Love From Osaka will be derived from copper as I believe its malleable quality best represents my concept. Similarly, another characteristic of copper is the way it gradually ages and changes colour which will reflect its environment and further demonstrate the philosophy.
